Haverford House

I’m also really excited to be starting my placement in July. I will be working at the Lourdes Center for Public Health in Camden, NJ. I had the chance to meet with my new co-worker who filled me in on some of the details for a  Diabetes Telemedicine project , which was just recently funded.  I feel grateful to be have this opportunity to learn about many important healthcare issues by working with the Camden community.

On a more personal note, I’m really looking forward to getting to know my housemates better. They are an amazing bunch and I can’t wait to be living with them next year! I think a lot of us share a love for cooking and eating (especially me)…so I’m looking forward to our communal dinners.

Yesterday we went into the city to meet with the current fellows, our future bosses, and the some other folks from the CPGC. What a great experience it was! We had the opportunity to get to know our bosses in context that was a little more informal than our interviews. It was basically a room full of people committed to social justice who are working towards it in one form or another. It was a diverse group with common values.

I’m really looking forward to starting my job in July. I’ll be working for the GROW Project and Witnesses to Hunger. Marianna and Jenny just got back from Washington, DC, with the Witnesses exhibit. It seems like such an important project. I am so lucky to have this opportunity to get involved.

a kitchen? I am READY to be off of a dining plan that ends at 7:30 PM. 

On a more serious note, I look forward to having a house. I’m from NYC and have only lived in an apartment. An entire place for us to decorate? It will be hard work but when we walk in and feel like we’ve entered Crate and Barrel (but at half the price), it’ll be worth it.

It will be bittersweet to graduate but I am definitely looking forward to being a Haverford House fellow! The organization I am working for, the Fair Food Project, is something that I added to that Haverford House roster of host organizations, so I am extremely interested in the issues that this organization addresses and feel fortunate to be able to work with them. It’s great to have anything to look forward to after graduation (especially in this economy) so to do something that I am interested in – food justice – is doubly exciting. This is all I have for now, but I’ll continue to write once I get into the swing of my fellowship and find out what my day-to-day is!
