Panel on Ending Homelessness – Mar. 25th

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

I have to admit…my blogging track record has been a little bleak as of late, but I have special breaking news to report. This Wednesday, this very Wednesday indeed, the 25th of March, at 4:30 in Hilles 109, I have the great pleasure of moderating a panel of experts on the topic of “ending homelessness.” Almost everyone I talk to agrees that ending homelessness is a good idea (though even that idea may be challenged at this event), but there are many different approaches to this complex problem.

Yet these strategies only become more complicated in the face of grave economic hardship.  What happens as more Americans experience lose jobs and safety nets grow increasingly thin?  How do we stem the growing tide of homelessness in this country?

To tease out the intricacies of these issues and more we will hear from:

David Wertheimer, Senior Program Officer for the Pacific Northwest Homelessness Initiative of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Eric Tars, Human Rights Staff Attorney and Children & Youth Staff Attorney for the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty

Calvin Lloyd, Advocate for the homeless, who spent 15 years on the streets of Philadelphia

Jennine Miller,   Coordinator of Education and Advocacy for Project H.O.M.E.

This group of individuals represents a diverse array of experiences and national and local perspectives and welcomes your ideas and thoughts in this important discussion.  So just to recap: Wednesday, March 25th at 4:30 P.M. in Hilles 109, Panel on Ending Homelessness not to be missed.
