THE AIDS QUILT COMES TO HAVERFORD »

Sir Tom (Donnelly)

While on location at the Athletic Center (see previous post) I ran into Coach Tom Donnelly and his trackmen, who were warming up for a late afternoon’s run.

Tom is a legend in his line of work, a true master and beloved by all; you don’t get much more winning-er than this. For you alums who competed under Tom, enjoy this video clip.

To put this man into perspective, running into Tom in his element is like running into Sir Paul McCartney outside Abbey Road Studios. Yeah.

The amazing thing to me is how little things have changed in the 20 years since I last ran for Tom. Coach, you still look the same, sound the same, have the same gestures. It really took me back. Thanks.

What a pleasure to take a break from working on my dissertation and watch Tom working his magic. Too bad that there isn’t some type of Star Trek type transporter device that would beam me back to Haverford so I could join you guys for a run!
