This summer I will be working with the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) in Ahmedabad, India. SEWA is an organization of poor, self-employed workers. SEWA works to organize its members to achieve their goals of full employment and self reliance. Recently SEWA started a micropension fund for its members to aid them in saving for retirement. Though the program appears successful, there has been little documentation done of its effects on the women. I will be primarily working to collect reactions to the program and write up reports on where the the micropension fund has been most successful and where it can be improved.
