Student Run Projects

Heston Tutoring
Tutor 4th grade students in Math and Reading once weekly. Teachers select students based on who needs extra help. 15 minute drive from campus.
Coordinators: Jessica Boyd, Imane Lamine

Aids Service Network (ASN)
Hold various aids related events (such as the annual AIDS quilt), sponsor Aids volunteer opportunities, and increase awareness on campus.
Coordinators: Caleb Wroblewski, Anahita Nourmahnad, Toan Nguyen, Ho Won (Albert) Kim

Bethel Academy
Tutor, mentor, and befriend young students. 10 minute walk from the Haverford Apartments!
Coordinator: Samantha Shain

Street Outreach
Meet in the DC lobby at 6:50pm on Wednesdays to make sandwiches and distribute them to the homeless in Logan circle in Philly. A great way to help, and get to know the homeless in Philly.
Coordinators: Zachary Feinberg, Lizzy Wingfield

1-on-1 tutoring
Pair up with nearby young students and tutor them for one hour weekly on Haverford’s campus. A very convenient and rewarding way to tutor local elementary, middle, and high school students.
Coordinators: Priya Khurana, Meredith Schoyer

Books Through Bars
Sort donated books once monthly to give to inmates. Read their letters, learn their interests, and find them books they will love to read!
Coordinators: Sara Landers, Emily Starace, Marta Wolfshorndl

Stitch n’ Bitch
Knit warm hats, gloves, etc. with friends and donate them to homeless shelters. Hang out, talk, and bitch while you knit comfy clothes of your choosing. For beginners and experts alike!

Amigos
Tutor young Latino students in nearby schools. This program is just getting started, so your role is flexible based on your available time, volunteer preferences, and commitment level.

Breakthrough Tutoring
Tutor and Mentor a Breakthrough High-School Student in the Breakthrough Drop-In Center for one hour weekly. – Volunteer at the Drop-In Center on the Germantown Friends School campus.
When: The Drop-In Center will be open at GFS from Monday through Thursday afternoons from 4pm – 6pm.
Commitment Level: We ask that tutors commit to at least one semester of tutoring with a student.
